World Class

Just spent a week at a beautiful little Inn called The Red Pump. Right off the top, if you have the time and some extra money please make an effort to enjoy this beautiful little place in Bayfield, Ontario on Lake Huron. I kind of wound up there by accident. I was supposed to go to Sauble Beach for a week, but that fell through.

By chance I remembered stopping in this little town last year on the way to Sauble and really loving it. In fact I wrote a blog about it last summer. Anyway, through the fact that my first choice in Bayfield was sold out, I found The Red Pump.

From the moment I arrived and was greeted by one of the owners, Gary, I knew I was in the right place. Gary and his incredible staff spent the next five days making sure I was happy. Creating special vegetarian meals for me, delivering fruit plates to my room, even allowing me to sit in the breautiful garden and enjoy my specially made breakfast.

On my last evening I got a 24 hour flu and they made sure that I was ok and brought me bread to toast. The room was huge, big shower, heated floors, private garden and made me feel like a king.

Here’s the thing. It cost me less, food and all then is will to rent this cottage for a week with my kids. It was a fantastic, world class experience, my colleague Robin Sharma speaks at length about the concept of world class service and expectations. He also talks a lot about a world class life. That’s the point of the blog today. What are you doing every day? Do you get caught up in Gossip? Do you get lost in anger and regret? What about getting those things that you want to get done, done? A world class life is about working 24 hours a day to be a person that everyone can be proud of… even if you didn’t know they were watching.

Word class isn’t measured in dollars and cents, it’s measured in smiles, warmth a satisfaction. I watched Sicko last night, shocking. The American Health Care (if you want to use the word care) System is a mess. Micheal Moore travelled to England to talk to a doctor. He asked him about treating patients based on their ability to pay. He said he didn’t think about that. He’s a doctor, his job is to care for people not to profit from them. That’s world class. Gary at the Red Pump, when the week was over left off all my breakfasts, snacks, a couple of glasses of wine. He made sure to spend time with me. Stephen the chef made each dinner a special event, trying to top the last. No extra cost…

I wrote a thank you note to Gary, Stephen and Sharon (house keeping, she gave me a tour of all the other rooms, incredible) to say thanks for a world class experience.

So here is today’s question… Read it, write it and answer it here on the STUpendous BLOG. Oh by the way… any campers and STAFF please be world class and continue to answer this BLOG and visit the Sandbox. World Class is a constant thing.

What are you doing today to truly take your life to a world class? What can you do today to make change to be better?

Today’s Picture’s come from my visit to Bayfield and the Red Pump. Simply World Class…

Reset…

I am away on a bit of a vacation. I am trying to ground myself and get ready for a busy fall. We just finished six great weeks of summer camp. Over 600 young people from all over the world came to YLCC to learn, grow and lead. After those fantastic days full of cheers, laughter, running and singing it is hard to sit still for a few days. I am though, slowly allowing myself to regenerate and refocus. If we don’t allow ourselves to stop and rejuvenate then we are missing out on part of life, a big part.

I get some of my best ideas when I am on vacation. I get re-motivated to do more. I also try and visit interesting places to get great new inspirations and meet cool people. I already have a few pages of changes I want to make to YLCC Inc.

Here is today’s question… Read it, write it and PLEASE share your ideas here on the STUpendous BLOG.

What do you do to regenerate and refocus yourself? What can you do in the next seven days to find time for you?

Today’s picture comes from a great evening here in Bayfield where I am vacationing. A long walk along the beach… so nice to be still and quiet and listen to the waves.

A (sort of) inconvenient truth

Driving back up North after dropping of my precious treasures Emily and Matthew (still have my Kristina for another few days). I stopped into a service centre along the 401. Near Woodstock Ontario. The parking lot was full of license plates from all over North America, even saw one from Poland… couldn’t figure that out. I live in the woods for the most part, right on a lake amongst acres and acres of beautiful woodland. I traveled up North into Algonquin Park just a few days prior and dropped off my trippers on Lake Oneanga. So beautiful, pristine and maintained.

When I walked through the parking lot of the Tim Hortin’s and Wendy’s I was disgusted… people smoking, throwing their cigaratte butts on the ground and into the gardens, cars left running, one guy peeing behind a bush and the garbage strewn all over the lot and sidewalks and lawn. No one caring, no one stopping to do anything. Sad.

I stopped and picked up a few pieces of garbage and tried to take them over to the garbage can. When I found one, it was over flowing with waste. I couldn’t help but think to myself as Tim Horton’s rakes in the cash (millions and millions of it) and people, like cattle, line up for the opportunity to exchange money in an angry fashion. Why couldn’t Tim Horton’s pay for an “environmental supervisor” their job would be during peak hours make sure that people had a way to recycle or at least place the garbage in an accessible garbage can.

When I got to the counter and asked for my coffee, it came double cupped. I said, “Oh I don’t need a double cup!” She simply responded… “It’s ok, it doesn’t matter.”

It does matter. It should matter to you. You should care. We need to make caring for the world as convenient as possible. You future depends on it.

Here is today’s question… Read it, write it,  answer it and of course share your thoughts on the STUpendous BLOG!

What can you do today to help clean up your world? If you aren’t doing anything now, why aren’t you?

Today’s picture is from that service centre. Note the sign on the garbage can… Keep Ontario Clean (only where conveniant)

I can fly!

Put it out there! Say it to the universe! Say it to a friend, say it to your teddy bear or say it to the mirror! We have such an ease in saying what we are bad at, what’s not working in our lives, who doesn’t like us or what we lost. It seems that it’s easier to be negative then positive. Here’s the thing, when we start to talk about the good stuff, our success, our tiumphs and even what we think we can do in the future we will start to feel better. You will actually begin to attract new people to your life.

The exciting part is you can do anything! There are hundreds of stories of people that have done amazing things and come from such simple backgrounds. Here is a HUGE idea… there are no extra people on the planet. Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Bono, Syndey Crosby, Micheal Jordon, Oprah all have the same number of hours as you. No one gets 25 or 26 hours. How do you spend your hours, your days, your moments. Who do you surround yourself with?

Be great. Believe in yourself. You can do anything!

Here is today’s question… read it, write it, answer it and of course PLEASE SHARE YOUR thoughts here on the STUpendous BLOG!

What do you want to do? What is your hearts desire? Your biggest dream? What can you do today to start living that great life?

Today’s pic comes from YLCC, my summer camp. My son matthew wants to fly like Superman… dreams to come true!

What are you fighting for?

Working away at a local Cafe on a HOT day. Not much time to post these days. Our camp is full, the campers are growing, laughing and learning everyday. That’s the idea, what can you do to make your life better? That is what our campers and staff are learning. So many of us move through our days with an almost non-caring attitude. I have met people that simply can forget things, places, people and memories without even putting up a fight. Each of us needs to have something in our lives to fight for! Is it a cause, a person, a relationship, a goal, a dream or perhaps the simple fact that you are aware of your own mortality? Knowing that each day could be your last, is something that if taken seriously can make you move.

I have been in a rut lately. Losing the battle of the bed. Something is missing. I am a little lonely, getting older (okay a lot older) and wishing for a mature companion. I get caught up in the day to day workings of the company and forget to take that time for me, in the middle, I do neither rather well. So, I need to refocus. Realize what it is that I need to fight for. Look in the mirror and give myself some credit. I have three beautiful, smart and fun children. I have the opportunity every day to influence lives and gosh darnit I look ok and I have my health. I also know that if I get caught up in the “whoa is me” syndrome, I will forget that I need to fight for what’s important.

Once you have your reason to fight you will have more energy, more excitement and more skip in your step. If someone or something doesn’t feel right or someone doesn’t fight for you or your goals, then move on. It can be that big step that leads you to the life that’s worth fighting for.

Here is today’s question… Read, write it, answer it and of course PLEASE share (come on all you new campers) your thoughts here on the STUpendous blog.

What is worth fighting for? What or who in your life would you give it all for? Why aren’t you?
