Late Night… Tired But Excited!

It’s late… I am very tired… why? Have you ever worked on a project with all of your heart and desire? If you have then you know where I am right now. I have been putting together our new website www.ylcc.com for the last 6 months. It is a HUGE project that requires a ton of work. Tonight is the eve of the launch of our new site.

I have learned that when you try and do something that you don’t have complete control of the entire project can become very frustrating. Sometimes simply trying to express my ideas and designs can become an event.

Well after much frustration, sometime tomorrow, somewhere in Utah a “switch” will be flipped and the new ylcc.com will be here for the world to see. Is it completely finished? No… that’s ok because during this entire experience I have come to realize that our projects like our goals and dreams are always evolving into something new, something more exciting. Don’t panic if your dreams and plans change they are supposed to. If you keep at it the best will come out of you and your true dreams will come true. The key is to stick with it…

Let me know what you think of the new ylcc.com

Today’s picture comes from a winters evening at camp… as the snow begins to melt I will no longer be able to walk out onto the lake and enjoy the night sky.

When Dreams Become Reality!

Ever wonder what it takes to make a dream reality? Ever thought to yourself… this is something that I want to take out of my head and put it into action?

I know that I have… I started a website, wanted to be a motivational speaker with impact, wanted to start a summer camp, wanted to own a summer camp, wanted to run a marathon (still working on that one) every dream I can think of I put through a series of questions and some stay in my head and cook a little longer while others come out and get tried. Do they all work? No… but all teach me something so that the next time I pull out a dream I am a little more apt to succeed.

At YLCC (my summer camp) we teach that dreams have incredible power and that young people should not be afraid of them. There is a long list of past campers and staff that have told me that it was at YLCC that they realized that they could make their dream happen.

One of those people is a former camper and now current staffer Kristina. She came to camp at the age of 13 I think and was always talking about being in the circus… crazy idea isn’t it. We encouraged her and supported her and then suddenly she was in Circus school in Montreal! Wow, she did it… this year she will graduate from the program and hopefully move onto incredible things. The great thing is that all of you probably have seen her or know someone who has! You see just a few weeks ago Kristina was invited to go to Italy to represent Canada… what sport? The closing ceremonies!! She is a German Wheel expert! Way to go Kristina… you turned your dream into a reality, can you!

Today’s picture is from Kristina and some fellow Canadians at the Olympics… she is the one wearing the YLCC swearhirt… I am so proud!

Hey Long Time No BLOG!

Wow, I have been away for a long time and for all of my loyal BLOG friends I am sorry. We have been so busy at camp and with no real internet connection I am left to only being able to write my BLOG’s when I am near Internet. Which is very hard to get to some times… it takes about an hour of driving and setting up the computer to get online.

Time is a real crazy thing isn’t it? It can really control us or we can choose to control it. I am not an expert on it, but I use it every day, I have three clocks in my kitchen and my kitchen isn’t that big, I have two clocks in my room, one on my VCR, another on the Satellite display, wait there is one on the shelf behind the couch, oops I almost forgot I have one on my wrist, each of my kids has a clock in their room as well. That makes a total of 12 clocks all around me. Yes you could say that I am an expert on it… I apparently collect them.
You would think with all of these reminders of father time around me (don’t get me started on calendars) that I wouldn’t need to learn about the value of time. I do… I meet so many people that have such a problem with being on time for things, finding time to get their tasks done, spending time with their children, working out at a gym, going for a walk, having dinner with a friend or partner or even posting a “daily BLOG”. So how do we do it? How do we find time… there is always the same amount of time in a day… never less, never more. Always the same 24 hours of opportunity. We need to find those time killers… those moments in the day that take away from you and your valuable time. I meet people all the time who sleep for ten or more hours a day (especially young people) and can’t find time in the day to do what they need to do.
I am proud of the fact that I have mastered the exact amount of time that I need to sleep… 4 hours and 39 minutes. I feel really good all day when I get that exact amount. It took a lot of trial and error to get it but I did. When I awake at 4:00am I am able to work for about 4 hours before my kids awake. Then when they are here with me we spend real quality time together. By the time that most people role into their office at 9am and get started working at 9:30 I have already had a full day… my afternoon’s are free to enjoy life or do more research into what I love to do. There are tons of techniques and methods for time management… mine seems to work right now, it took me a couple of decade to figure it out but I did. I can’t help but think to my self if I had figured all this out earlier I may have done so much more… who knows… only TIME will tell!

Today’s picture comes from a distant memory from years gone by… my friends. What a TIME it was!
